Legendary Soprano Montserrat Caballé Hospitalized

Soprano Montserrat Caballé has been hospitalized after numerous complications.

According to Platea magazine, the legendary soprano, now 85, was hospitalized for a gallbladder issue. The soprano is being treated at the Hospital Sant Pau, where doctors expect she will recover fully and be released in coming days.

Caballé is best known for her expansive repertoire, having conquered the works of Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti, and Rossini. She was also an exponent of many French works and also sang such demanding works as “Salome” and “Tristan und Isolde.” Her discography is immense as she recorded for RCA Victor, EMI, Decca, and Philips. Her final role on the stage was the Duchess of Crakenthorp in Donizetti’s ‘La Fille du Régiment.”
