The LA Philharmonic has announced its 2018-19 season featuring some of the greatest stars in the world.

For this season announcement, we will solely concentrate on the operatic and vocal events. Take a look.

Baroque 

The LA Phil kicks off its baroque series with “L’arpeggiata” featuring musical director Christina Pluhar, soprano Céline Scheen, male soprano Vincenzo Capezzuto, and dancer Anna Dego. The concert will embark on a feisty and joyous exploration of Baroque and traditional music.

Performance Date: Nov. 4, 2018 

The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale will join conductor Nicholas McGegan for Handel’s “Saul.” The dramatic oratorios will feature soloists Sherezade Panthaki, Yulia Van Doren, Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, Aaron Sheehan, Daniel Okulitch and Hadleigh Adams.

Colburn Celebrity Series 

In the recital series Eric Owens and Lawrence Brownlee team up for a star-studded evening of arias and spirituals. Craig Terry joins the two on piano.

Mainstage Concerts

Michael Tilson Thomas conducts his Four Preludes on Playthings of the Wind with mezzo-soprano Measha Brueggergosman. The program also includes Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique”

Tenor Michael Slattery performs Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings alongside Horn player Andrew Bain. Simone Young conducts the program which also includes Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from “Peter Grimes” and Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra

Tan Dun’s evening-length oratorio “Buddha’s Passion” is conducted by Gustavo Dudamel featuring Sen Guo, Huiling Zhu, Kang Wang, and Shenyang.

Andrew Staples, Kelley O’Connor, and Davóne Tines join Salonen for Stravinsky’s “Requiem Canticles;” Introitus (TS Eliot in Memoriam), In memoriam Dylan Thomas; Mass; Elegy for JFK; Chorale Variations on “Von Himmel hoch, da komm’ ich her” and Cantata

Performance Date: April 14, 2019

Paul Groves joins Salonen for all Stravinsky program that includes the composer’s “Orpheus” and “Perséphone.”

Performance Date: April 19-20 2019

Audra McDonald joins Esa-Pekka Salonen for an evening featuring Kurt Weill’s “The Seven Deadly Sins” and Hindemith’s “Hin und zurück” and Cabaret selections.

Dudamel conducts Beethoven’s Mass in C and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with Ailyn Pérez, Anna Larsson, David Portillo and Matthias Goerne.

Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 comes to life with Gustavo Dudamel conducting a star-studded vocal ensemble that includes Tamara Wilson, Leah Crocetto, Joélle Harvey, Mihoko Fujimura, Tamara Mumford, Joseph Kaiser, Ryan McKinny and Morris Robinson.
