Jonas Kaufmann will return to the Metropolitan Opera in 2018-19.

The AP confirmed the news in an interview with Kaufmann. According to the interview “he is scheduled to return next season for Puccini’s ‘La Fanciulla del West.’”

The interview also revealed that the coming seasons will see more stagings of “Otello” and the French version of Verdi’s “Don Carlos.” He is also expected to sing Strauss’ “Four Last Songs” in London and also plans on singing Wagner’s “Tannhauser” and Korngold’s “Die Tote Stadt.”

The article also revealed why Kaufmann was replaced in the Metropolitan Opera’s “Tosca.” According to the article, “he needed to skip the rehearsal period and early performances to spend time at his home outside Munich with his 19-year-old daughter and younger teenage sons.”

Kaufmann next returns to Carnegie Hall for a recital and is expected to sing the second act of “Tristan und Isolde.”
