Patricia Racette has withdrawn from the Metropolitan Opera’s upcoming revival of Alfano’s “Cyrano de Bergerac”
The Met announced that Racette had an abdominal hernia that would also cause her to cancel her scheduled Singer’s Studio Masterclass and conversation at the Bruno Walter Auditorium.
As a result, Jennifer Rowley will replace Racette in the role of Roxanne. Rowley made her Met debut in 2014 as Musetta in Puccini’s “La Bohème.” The soprano recently performed the title role in Puccini’s “Tosca” at the New Orleans Opera and at Dresden’s Sächsische Staatsoper. She has also performed Leonora in Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” at the Théâtre de Caen, Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and at the Opéra de Lille.
Racette recently revived LA Opera’s production of Strauss’ “Salome” to rave reviews. She also performed the role at the Metropolitan Opera and OperaWire said, it was “an intense passionate night of great operatic singing, and especially acting.”
“Cyrano de Bergerac is scheduled to open on May 2 and will run until the 13. Marco Armiliato will conduct all performances which are set to star Roberto Alagna in the title role, Atalla Ayan, and Juan Jesús Rodríguez.
