By Francisco Salazar

Javier Camarena has announced his debut album for Decca Classics.

The new album entitled “Contrabandista” will be an exploration of Spanish tenor, composer, and impresario Manuel García and will feature three world premiere recordings of García’s works alongside arias by Rossini and Zingarelli. The CD will also include a duet from “Armida” with Cecilia Bartoli and will launch Cecilia Bartoli’s new label “Mentored by Bartoli.”

Per a press release, Camarena noted, “I’m honored to present my debut solo album on Decca Classics with Cecilia Bartoli. Working alongside her, whether on stage or in the studio, is always an artistically rewarding and inspiring experience. I am thrilled that with this project we are illuminating the life and music of this fascinating historical figure, Manuel García.”

Camarena has previously been featured on two Decca DVD releases with Bartoli performing Rossini’s “Le Comte Ory” and “Otello.” “Contrabandista” is set for release on Oct. 5.
