Des Moines Opera Announces 5 Operas for 2017-18 Season

The Des Moines Metro Opera has announced the repertory for its 2018 season which will also include the company’s 46th Summer Festival and two Stages Series.

The company’s season will include such operas as “Die Fledermaus,” “Rusalka,” Jonathan Dove’s ever-popular “Flight,” and a production of Kaminsky/Campbell/Reed’s one-act opera “As One. There will also be a production of Aaron Copland’s “The Tender Land.”

“Curating a season of fascinating works that contrast and complement one another in compelling ways is a hallmark of our company,” said General and Artistic Director Michael Egel. “The 2018 Season is a beautiful combination of powerful, ethereal and laugh-out-loud funny works.”

The opening of the season will be “Rusalka,” which opens on June 22, 2018. The opera runs for five performances.

“Die Fledermaus” bows on June 23 and will play for six shows.

Rising star John Holiday will appear in “Flight,” which opens on June 30, 2018, and concludes, after four performances, on July 13, 2018.

Meanwhile, “As One,” will open on Nov. 17, 2017, and run for three performances.

“The Tender Land” will open on July 5, 2018, and will conclude after two performances on July 2.
