Daniela Dessì To Have Street Dedicated To Her

The Genoa council has approved the dedication of a street in the name of soprano Daniela Dessì.

The proposal by Luca Pirandoni, de Movimiento Cinco Estrellas was given a unanimous vote. According to the proposal, Dessì was a Genoa world ambassador as she traveled around the world working in the best theaters, directors and was recognized for her vocal and interpretive skills.

Dessì died in 2016 at the age of 59 after suffering aggressive cancer. The soprano was recognized for her countless roles including “Tosca,” “La Traviata,” “Manon Lescaut,” “Norma” and “La Bohème.” She performed in such theaters as the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Gran Teatre de Liceu, Teatro Massimo di Palermo and Arena di Verona. She performed frequently with her husband Fabio Armiliato. Numerous recordings and DVDs exist today that showcase Dessi’s wonderful artistry.
