Christian Thielemann Renews Contract With Semperoper

The Semperoper in Dresden has announced that music director Christian Thielemann will extend his contract for five years.

The German conductor will be with the company until 2024. The new contract will begin on August 1, 2019, effective once he finishes his current one. Under the new contract he will conduct a minimum of 40 concerts including 25 opera performances.

He will also continue as music director of the Salzburg Easter Festival and the Bayreuth Festival.

This season Thielemann conducts the Ring Cycle at the Semperoper as well as “Tosca.” He will also conduct a new production of “Tosca” at the Salzburg Easter Festival with Anja Harteros, Aleksandrs Antonenko, and Ludovic Tezier. He is also slated to conduct at the Bayreuth Festival in “Lohengrin” with Roberto Alagna, Harteros, and Walraud Meier. He will also conduct a revival of “Tristan und Isolde.”
