Cecilia Bartoli To Return To The Teatro Alla Scala

By Francisco Salazar

Cecilia Bartoli will return to the Teatro alla Scala for a three-year Baroque music collaboration.

According to the AP, Bartoli said, “Baroque Music is somewhat forgotten in Italy. We live in Baroque cities. We breathe Baroque in Italy. For this I say it is interesting to bring back to light compositions and authors of Baroque operas.”

The Baroque program will begins in 2019 with Handel’s “Giulio Cesare in Egitto,” followed by his “Semele” in 2020 and “Ariodante” in 2021. La Scala’s general manager Alexander Pereira added that he wants to bring the three productions to other Italian opera houses.

Bartoli is currently the artistic director of the Whitsun Festival in Salzburg and is set to appear at the Salzburg Festival this summer in Rossini’s “L”Italiana in Algeri.” She last performed at La Scala in 2012 where she sang multiple times in the 1990s.
