This week, four rarely performed works get new releases. Naxos, Dynamic, and Opus Arte are pulling the stops on showcasing some of the greatest works in the repertoire that need more visibility. Here is a look.
Le Comte Ory
Naxos will release a new production of Rossini’s final comedy. The production from the Malmo Opera stars Leonardo Ferrando in the title role, Erika Miklosa, and Daniela Pini. Tobias Ringborg conducts the performance, which comes from 2015.
Brett Dean and Matthew Jocelyn’s new opera gets a release with Opus Arte. The production from the Glyndebourne stars Barbara Hannigan, Sarah Connolly, Kim Begley, Alan Clayton, Rod Gilroy, and Rod Gilroy. Vladimir Jurowski conducts.
La Fanciulla del West
Emily Magee stars in a new CD release of Puccini’s rarely performed work on Dynamic. The recording from the Teatro San Carlo also stars Roberto Aronica and Claudio Sgura.
Il Vespro Siciliano
Lindpaintner’s rarely performed work gets a CD release by Naxos. Federico Longo conducts the opera, which showcases a composer that has been completely forgotten in modern times.
