CD / DVD Releases – Week of Feb. 5: Meyerbeer & Rossini Rarities Get New Recordings

It’s week of rarities with two rarely performed works getting new recordings. Here is a look!

Margherita d’Anjou

Meyerbeer’s little-known work gets a DVD by Dynamic from last year’s Festival della Valle d’Itria. The production was conducted by Fabio Luisi stars Giulia de Blasis and Arcangelo Carbotti. When OperaWire reviewed the show last year it said: “Certainly, it was a well-performed showcase, containing some beautiful musical episodes.” The opera will first be released in Europe before heading over to the US.

Ricciardo E Zoraide

Rossini’s rarely performed opera gets a new recording with the Jose Miguel Perez Sierra conducting. Maxim Mironov stars alongside Alessandra Marianelli in what most consider one of Rossini’s gems. Naxos releases the recording in collaboration with the SWR.

Heresy

Robert Doyle’s long-awaited recording of his Electronic opera gets a release through Naxos.
