By David SalazarThe Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires is the most important opera house on the planet.
At least that is what tourism website Travel 365 has asserted. Per the website, the theatre, which is at the heart of the Argentine City, is “a true monument of theatrical, lyrical and acoustic art, undoubtedly the best of all time.”
Teatro Colón director María Victoria Alcaraz expressed that it was “an honor for the Teatro Colón and for the city of Buenos Aires this recognition, which renews the prestige and international significance of the first Argentine Coliseum.”
The Italian blog unsurprisingly placed Teatro alla Scala in Milan as the second most essential house with the Teatro Massimo di Palermo as the third. The Opéra Garnier in Paris comes in at number four with the Vienna State Opera rounding out the top five. The Royal Opera House in London is sixth with the Teatro La Fenice making it four Italian theaters in the top seven; no other theatre from Italy places in the top 15; the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli sits in 15th place.
The Metropolitan Opera is the top American theater on the list, coming in at number eight with the Fox Theatre of Detroit, placed at number 10, as the only other American theater on the list. Sandwiched between in between at number nine is the State Theatre in Prague.
Theatres in Copenhagen, Moscow, Sydney, and Bayreuth are the final four theaters on the top 15.
