Anna Netrebko Confirms New Roles

Anna Netrebko has confirmed she will be performing “La Forza del Destino” at the Covent Garden under Antonio Pappano.

The soprano noted in a recent interview with Opera di Voci that while she believes the role is for a spinto soprano, Pappano convinced her to do it. In the interview, Netrebko also noted that she was thinking of doing “Don Carlo” but was waiting because she believed the role of Elisabetta needed a bigger sound.

Other roles she revealed included Abigaille in “Nabucco,” the title role of “Turandot” and Amelia in “Un Ballo in Maschera.”

When asked about returning to Wagner, the soprano confirmed she would sing Elsa once more in Bayreuth but did not plan on singing anymore Wagner. As for the Bel Canto repertoire, she noted that “Anna Bolena” was a voice wrecker and would not complete the Tudor cycle.

She also said that while Tosca is not her favorite role, there are contracts to sing the role all over the world.
