Anita Rachvelshvili, Iestyn Davies & Renée Fleming Highlight Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s 2019-20 Season

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2019-20 season, featuring a number of important soloists and important works. For this season announcement, we will only focus on vocal showcases or programs related to opera in any way.

Here is a look.

Yannick Nezet-Seguin leads the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal in Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4 as well as Joyce DiDonato in two of Mozart’s concert arias and one from “La Clemenza di Tito.”

Performance Dates: Oct. 19, 2019

Riccardo Muti conducts Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” overture alongside the Brahms Double Concerto starring Stephanie Jeong and Kenneth Olsen. The all-German program also includes Schumann’s Symphony No. 3.

Performance Dates: Nov. 7-12. 2019

Anita Rachvelishvili, Piero Pretti, and Luca Salsi star in a concert performance of Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” with Riccardo Muti conducting the Chicago Symphony.

Performance Dates: Feb. 6-8, 2020

Amanda Forsythe and Iestyn Davies perform Handel arias and “Dido’s Lament” by Purcell. Nicholas Kraeme conducts Handel and Bach suites.

Performance Dates: March 26-28, 2020

Renée Fleming and Evgeny Kissin join forces for a recital. The concert comes in collaboration with the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Performance Date: March 19, 2020

Alain Altinoglu conducts Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” with Elena Sancho-Pereg, Benjamin Bliss, and Elliot Madore. The concert also includes Saint-Saëns’ “Danse macabre” and Roussel’s Suite No. 2 from “Bacchus et Ariane.”

Performance Dates: May 7-9, 2020

Joyce DiDonato and Il Pomo d’Oro perform as part of the Chamber music program for the Chicago Symphony.

Performance Dates: May 31, 2020

Riccardo Muti conducts the season finale with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 to celebrate the iconic composer’s 250th anniversary. Elena Stikhina, Jennifer Johnson Cano, Daniel Johansson, and Franz-Josef Selig star in the famed symphony.

Performance Dates: June 18-21, 2020
