Yusif Eyvazov will be singing three performances of Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” at the Metropolitan Opera this fall.

According to the company’s official website, the tenor will take on the role on Dec. 8, 14, and 21; all three were previously intended for Aleksandrs Antonenko, who remains scheduled for the performances on Nov. 29, Dec. 2, and 5. Kristian Benedikt is set to sing one performance on Dec. 18.

Eyvazov performed the opera at the Bolshoi Theatre during the 2018-19 season.

The tenor, who hails from Azerbaijan, was originally only supposed to appear in the New Year’s Eve Gala during the 2019-20 season after a successful run of “La Fanciulla del West” in 2018-19. He made his debut with the company in 2015 in “Turandot” and also performed in “Tosca” in 2017-18.

Additionally, this 2019-20 season will include performances of such operas as “Adriana Lecouvreur,” “Il Trovatore,” “Otello,” “Turandot,” “Don Carlo,” and “Aida.”
