This week the opera world will get a chance to see a world premiere, a rarely performed work, a season-opening and two new productions with distinguished casts. Among the performers this week are Pretty Yende, Irene Theorin, Sonya Yoncheva, and Javier Camarena. Here is a look at what to see.

Lohengrin-Vlaanderen Opera, Belgium

Zoran Todorovich sings the title role in Wagner’s masterpiece. Liene Kinča and Iréne Theorin sing the role of Elsa and Ortrud in David Alden’s production which is a co-production with the Royal Opera. Alejo Pérez conducts the production.

Rodelinda-Opera de Lille, France

Jeanine De Bique stars in the title role of Handel’s popular work alongside Tim Mead, Benjamin Hulett, Avery Amereau, and rising stars Jakub Józef Orliński and Andrea Mastroni. Emmanuelle Haïm conducts the new production by Jean Bellorini.

Medée-Berlin State Opera, Germany

Sonya Yoncheva makes her role debut in Cherubini’s rarely performed work, celebrating her 50th role. The soprano is accompanied by an all-star cast that includes Charles Castronovo, Elsa Dreisig, Marina Prudenskaya, and Iain Patterson. Daniel Barenboim conducts the new production by Andrea Berth.

I Puritani-Gran Theatre del Liceu, Spain 

Pretty Yende and Javier Camarena reteam for a revival of Bellin’s final opera. Mariusz Kwiecien also stars with Christopher Franklin conducting the work. A second cast alternates with the superstars which stars Celso Albelo and María José Moreno.

Tristessa-Royal Swedish Opera, Sweden

Katharina Thoma directs the world premiere of Torbjörn Elensky, Jonas S. Bohlin, and Ann-Sofi Sidén’s opera. The work stars Kerstin Avemo, Johanna Rudström, Susann Végh, Joel Annmo, and John Erik Eleby.
