Taylor Shay McNair Files Complaint Against Chautauqua Institution

By Francisco Salazar

Taylor Shay McNair has filed a complaint against the Chautauqua Institute.

According to the New York State Division of Human Rights complaint, McNair alleges that the Chautauqua Institute unlawfully discriminated against her due to her race and gender and fired her from her position as a company manager.

According to McNair, she was sexually harassed and intimidated and after going to human resources, McNair’s complaints were seen as problematic. From documents given to OperaWire, McNair said, “I am writing to formally lodge a complaint about the ongoing sexual harassment and harassment based on my national origin and victim status that I have been enduring in the workplace. The persistent and unacceptable behavior has created a hostile and unsafe work environment for me, and it needs to be addressed immediately. Despite attempting to address these issues informally, the behavior has continued unabated.”

She added, “It is imperative that this matter is taken seriously and that appropriate action is taken to ensure a work environment free from harassment and discrimination. I demand prompt and comprehensive action to investigate and address these complaints. Hate crimes have taken place at the employer with comments on my breasts, being called a shemale and shown genitals of a white man, being called ‘shaniqua’ and ostracized and excluded by the lgbtq on site group after what were supposed to be private complaints… I anticipate a prompt and thorough response to this urgent matter. This is a federally recognized property and also has public accommodations mandates. Facts: I am a transgender woman, she/her, gender non conforming having had recent breast augmentation. I am a federally recognized US Chattel Slave Descendant found on the federal United States Slave Schedule through both mommy and dada. I have received victim services through the FBI and have state victim status in NC, my place of birth.”

OperaWire reached out to the Chautauqua Institution for comment but the organization had no comment to offer.
