The Swiss Federal Council has declared a new lockdown in Switzerland.

Due to the new decision of the Swiss federal authorities, restaurants, bars, theaters, concert halls, and opera houses will be closed until at least Jan. 22, 2021.

Major Swiss cultural institutions have already closed until the end of January or February 2021. However, as a result of the latest decision, Theater Basel has also announced that all the performances until the end of February 2021 are no longer a guarantee. The theater is officially closed until Jan. 22, 2021, but even if reopens its doors shortly thereafter, the organization might experience major challenges with organizing its February productions in time for their scheduled performances.

Switzerland is undergoing a second COVID-19 wave, with new daily cases stabilizing on a high level.
