Soprano Tasha Koontz Joins Athlone Artists

By Logan Martell

Athlone Artists has announced that soprano Tasha Koontz has joined their roster of talent.

A frequent performer with the San Diego Opera, Koontz is set to return in the 2022-23 season as Nella in “Gianni Schicchi,” and Genovieffa in “Suor Angelica.” Her musical education began at an early age, and she soon found herself touring Europe and South America with her high school chorus before going into private voice lessons at her sister’s suggestion. Koontz served as music director for the a cappella group Purple Haze while she finished her degree at Northwestern University. The group was a finalist in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, and performer their medley of ‘NSYNC songs at Alice Tully Hall.

During the pandemic, she wrote and arranged music for the Episcopal Church in San Diego, where she acts as music director. Koontz is also a co-founder of The ff Collective, a non-profit which seeks to create performance opportunities for women and underrepresented artists in Southern California.

“Music has always been such a huge part of my life,” says Koontz. “I am so looking forward to working with Miguel and Athlone Artists. In a business where you’re constantly putting yourself forward, and learning, and growing, it is so affirming to have someone in your corner who is there to support you. I am so grateful to add such a wonderful person to my team of people I can trust in this industry.”
