Shenyang, Brian Jagde, Jennifer Johnston Headline Shanghai Symphony Orchestra’s 2020-21 Season

The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Long Yu have announced the 2020-21 season.

For the purposes of this article, we will focus primarily on vocal and operatic performances.

Long Yu will conduct Fauré’s “Requiem” in a performance starring Soprano Ying Huang and Baritone Liao Changyong. The concert will also feature Huang Ruo’s “A Dust in Time” and Chopin’s “Andante spianato and grande polonaise for piano and orchestra featuring Yundi Li.

Performance Date: Nov. 28, 2020

Brian Jagde, Jennifer Johnston, Zhang Liping, and Shenyang will perform Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde” and Ye Xiaogang’s “The Song of the Earth.” Long Yu conducts.

Performance Date: Dec. 13, 2020

Shenyang and Ying Huang will appear in a concert featuring Mahler’s “Rückert Lieder” and Symphony No. 5. The concert will also feature Ding Shande’s “Chinese Folksong Arrangements” and “Poems of Western Yunnan.

Performance Date: Jan. 15, 2021

Long You will conduct a production of “La Traviata” with the China NCPA Chorus.

Performance Date: Nov. 6, 2021
