Alabama-based Opera Birmingham has announced its 2023-24 season.

It all kicks off with “The Billy Goats Gruff” which features scenes from works by Mozart, Donizetti, and Rossini.

Performance Date: Oct. 7, 2023

Next up is “Sounds of the Season,” a holiday concert featuring the Opera Birmingham Studio and Opera Birmingham Chorus.

Performance Date: Dec. 10, 2023

The company will then world premiere Carla Luca and Marianna Mott Newirth’s “Touch,” an opera about the life of Helen Keller. The opera stars Alie B. Gorrie and Michelle Drever and features the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

Performance Date: Jan. 19 & 21, 2024

Next up is the Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition.

Performance Date: March 17, 2024

Then is “Pagliacci” with the Opera Birmingham Chorus and Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

Performance Date: April 26 & 28, 2024

The company will also showcase its monthly “Opera Shots” concerts.
