The Met Opera’s Live in HD series for the 2019-20 season kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019 with a transmission of Puccini’s “Turandot.”

The broadcast, which kicks off 12:55 p.m. Eastern time, stars Christine Goerke in the title role, with Yusif Eyvazov, and Elenora Buratto as Calaf and Liù, respectively.

The big story, of course, is that this is maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s first Puccini opera at the Met. However, it is his eighth Live in HD transmission after such operas as “Carmen,” “Don Carlo,” “Faust,” “Rusalka,” “Otello,” “”La Traviata,” and “Dialogues des Carmélites.”

Each of the major soloists, with the exception of Goerke, will be appearing in their first Live in HD transmissions at the Met. Goerke made her Live in HD debut last season in “Die Walküre.”

This is the first Live in HD transmission of the season. It will be followed by “Manon” on Oct. 26, “Madama Butterfly” on Nov. 9, “Akhnaten” on Nov. 29, “Wozzeck” on Jan. 11, 2020, “Porgy and Bess” on Feb. 1, “Agrippina” on Feb. 29, “Der Fliegende Holländer” on March 14, “Tosca” on April 11, and “Maria Stuarda” on May 9, 2020.
