Lisette Oropesa Delivers Historic Encore in ‘La Traviata’

Lisette Oropesa made Teatro Real de Madrid history on July 28 when she performed an encore during a performance of Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The soprano repeated “Addio del Passato,” the iconic aria in Act three.

This is the second time that Oropesa was involved in an encore at the famed theater. Back in 2018, she was a member of the cast that delivered an encore of the sextet from “Lucia di Lammermoor.”

Oropesa is among an exclusive group of artists to give encores at the theater in Madrid. Leo Nucci was the first to do so in 2009 when he repeated “Sí, vendetta” from “Rigoletto” alongside Patricia Ciofi; he would repeat the feat in 2015 when he encored the same duet with soprano Olga Peretyatko.

But the king of encores at the Teatro Real de Madrid is Javier Camarena who has been involved in three encore performances at the Teatro Real. In 2014, he repeated “A mesa mis” from “La Fille du Régiment.” He was involved in the 2018 “Lucia” encore with Oropessa and then did a follow-up performance of “Una furtiva lagrima” in 2019.
