The Opera Festival of Chicago has unveiled its 2022 season.

This edition will feature two fully-staged productions as well as a celebration of a legendary opera star.

“Following the resounding success of our inaugural season last summer, we’re thrilled to return to Chicago-area stages for an exciting second season,” said General Director Robert Massey in an official press statement. “In keeping with our mission of presenting fully staged productions of Italian opera masterworks rarely performed in the United States, we’ll showcase a pair of operas that despite being penned by two of the art forms most renowned composers, have not been performed professionally in Chicago in modern history.”

The season kicks off with “L’inganno felice” by Rossini. The work will be directed by Ella Marchment and conducted by Emanuele Andrizzi. Katherine Beck stars alongside Kenneth Tarver, Matthew Ciuffitelli, Alexander Adams-Leytes, and Frank DeVicentis.

Performance Dates: July 8 & 10, 2022

That will be followed up by “Tebaldi @100” at Ganz Hall. The showcase will star Heather Hjelle, Angel Azzarra, Reuben Lillie, Franco Pomponi, and pianist Douglas Han as they take on music by Verdi, Puccini, Cilea, and Giodano, among others.

Performance Dates: July 15, 2022

The season draws to a close with Verdi’s “Il Corsaro” starring Jose Simerilla Romero, Franco Pomponi, Christine Arand, Alejandra Sandoval, Frank DeVincentis, André De Mesquita, Matthew Lord, and Reuben Lillie. Emanuele Andrizzi conducts a production directed by Amy Hutchinson.
