Houston Grand Opera has announced its plans to bring music, storytelling, and hands-on creativity to families with a week of free arts experiences designed especially for children in grades Pre-K-2.

During spring break (March 9 to 13), families are invited to explore opera alongside Houston Grand Opera teaching artists. Programming includes Storybook Opera and Music! Stories! OPERA! hosted in community spaces such as Levy Park in Upper Kirby, the Wortham Theater Center in the Downtown Theater District, and Rodeo Houston at NRG Park.

Stories from children’s books are told through opera singing and imaginative play in Storybook Opera concerts. These performances include “Music of the Butterfly,” by Ann M. Leis and Gail Danziger Klein, “The Armadillo’s Dream,” by Dennis Arrowsmith, “World Cup Women” by Meg Waters, “Hansel & Gretel,” based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale, among others. Music! Stories! OPERA! events which are hosted within the community give children to explore the art form through a blend of live performance, storytelling, and interactive games.
