“From Falla to Chick Corea” will be presented at St. Frances Cabrini Shrine in NYC in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on Oct. 17.
The program features performances by soprano Zoya Gramagin, and mezzo-sopranos Eugenia Forteza and Laura Virella, along with pianist Alexander Chaplinskiy, and other instrumentalists. “From Falla to Chick Corea” includes both classical and contemporary voices of the Hispanic world.
Forteza will perform works by Manuel de Falla, Ariel Ramirez, and Astor Piazzola. Virella will present selections from “Canciones para Laura’” by Jack Delano, which forms part of her ongoing research and recording project to revive Delano’s music. She will also perform Ernesto Cordero and by Andrés Castro Rios’s “Voz del güiro.”
Gramagin and Chaplinskiy will give a musical tribute to Mother Cabrini, the first U.S. citizen to be canonized and a beloved protector of immigrants, and for whom the venue is named for. This specially curated section will feature Mascagni’s “Voi lo sapete a mamma” and “Verdi’s La forza del destino.” Gramagin will also perform Carlos Eleta Almarán’s “Carlos Eleta Almarán.”
“This concert brings together artists from diverse backgrounds who share a passion for celebrating cultural heritage through music. Each piece tells a story of resilience, migration, and transformation — themes that deeply resonate at Cabrini Shrine, a very special place to perform a program like ours,” Spotlight’s Natalie Burlutskaya, the producer and curator of the evening, said in a press release,
