Elena Stikhina & Natalya Romaniw Lead Puccini’s ‘Tosca’ at Dutch National Opera

The Dutch National Opera is set to open its 2025-26 season with Puccini’s “Tosca.”

The production by Barrie Kosky is inspired by Film Noir and will showcase Nathalie Stutzmann, who makes her house debut as conductor.

When Kosky’s production first opened in 2022, critics raved and said, “It is in these psychologically highly-charged interactions where Kosky’s film noir approach is most effective. Every movement, every gesture is precisely choreographed to the music to create a blood-curdling psychological tension that keeps rising until the dramatic climax of Scarpia’s murder, depicted with much graphic violence.”

The title role will be sung alternately by Elena Stikhina and Natalya Romaniw, who makes her house debut. Tenor Joshua Guerrero returns as Cavaradossi, while baritone Gevorg Hakobyan takes on the role of Scarpia.

The opera will be performed nine performances between Sept. 3 and Sept. 25, 2025.
