Fabio Luisi, Tamara Mumford & Krassimira Stoyanova Lead Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Redesigned Fall 2020 Season

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra announced on Friday that it will present a new curated fall season of short concerts with smaller ensembles playing to a maximum audience of 75 people per performance.

The redesigned fall season at the Meyerson Symphony Center, with a maximum seating capacity of 2,602, will begin on Sept. 4. The fall season will mark the debut of Fabio Luisi as DSO’s Music Director. The official statement on the DSO’s website said, “following the consultation of a doctor who is a specialist in infectious diseases, the DSO has implemented new protocols for concert-going. New protocols will include mandatory wearing of facemasks, voluntary temperature checks upon entering, and an ongoing deep cleaning process between concerts. All concerts will be approximately one hour in length and will have no intermissions.”

The full program of the revised fall season has been announced on the DSO’s official website and for the purpose of this article, we will focus on vocal works.

Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde” will be performed in a Chamber Ensemble Version by Schönberg and Riehn. Mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford and tenor Stuart Skelton will perform alongside Fabio Luisi conducting.

Performance Dates: Oct. 9-11, 2020

Singer and actress Kelli O’Hara will perform Broadway tunes in concert with the DSO. Rob Fisher conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 16-18, 2020

Soprano Krassimira Stoyanova, mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton, tenor Piero Pretti, and bass Wenwei Zhang join Fabio Luisi in a performance entitled “Verdi selections with Fabio.” The program will include arias, duets, and overtures from “Aida,” “Don Carlo,” and “La Forza del Destino”, among others.

Performance Dates: Oct. 29 – Nov. 1, 2020

Baritone Reginald Smith, Jr. will perform in “Concert to Honor Lives Lost to Racial Violence and Injustice.” He will be joined by other soloists, the Dallas Black Dance Theatre, and Musicians from the DSO Young Strings Program.

The program will consist of musical and dance performances and remarks from prominent Dallas leaders, and will also include the premiere of a new work commissioned for the occasion from Quinn Mason, a Dallas-based Black composer.

Performance Date: Nov. 11, 2020

Singer, actor and presenter Erich Bergen will perform with the DSO in a program entitled “Erich Bergen’s Hollywood Songbook.” The program will include a musical tour of Hollywood famous songs. Jeff Tyzik conducts.

Performance Date: Nov. 12, 2020

The Queens of Soul concert will feature singer and songwriter Shayna Steele. Jeff Tyzik conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13-15, 2020
