Central City Opera to Present ‘Amahl and the Night Visitors’ in December

The Central City Opera has announced that it will “Amahl and the Night Visitors” for the holiday season.

The work will be shown three times on Dec. 20, 21, and 22 at the Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Denver.

“Amahl and the Night Visitors” is a family-friendly opera and has endured since its premiere in 1951. The opera was commissioned by NBC as the first opera written for television and debuted on Dec. 24, 1951, becoming the first network television Christmas special to become an annual tradition.

The performances have become a tradition for the Central City Opera, which has celebrated the holiday season by performing Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera. The opera was presented in 2022 and 2023.
