Luglio Musicale Trapanese to Present World Premiere of ‘Il Sogno di Azzurra’

By Francisco Salazar

Il Luglio Musicale Trapanese is set to continue its 77th edition with “Il sogno di Azzurra”by Andrea Ferrante.

The work will have its world premiere at the Teatro Tonino Pardo a Trapani on Nov. 29 and will be conducted by the composer himself.

The work, which is set in Trapani tells the story of Azzurra, who dreams of being a musician and giving voice to the sea through the cello.

In a statement, director Virginia Gambino, who also oversees the sets and choreography said, “‘Il sogno di Azzurra’ presents itself as a poetic tale in which the reality of poverty is transfigured through the imaginative power of dreams. Salt becomes both a concrete and symbolic element, an emblem of toil and purity, of hardship and light. The dream does not represent an escape from reality, but rather a revelation: the luminous manifestation of what already exists, but which we must learn to see.”

The opera will star Federica Pinco, Giorgia Ferrara and Mariano Orozco. Ferrante conducts the Luglio Musicale Trapanese ensemble and chorus.
