This summer, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s in New York City will begin the first of what will be an annual summer event. The Chamber Music Festival, to be held this June and every June hereafter, will highlight a single composer.

“Facets of Schubert” kicks-off the new tradition with three different performances throughout the month, where the organization will explore the chamber works of the Austrian, Romantic composer and uncover the connections of his pieces to his life and art.

Chinese soprano Ying Fang, whose voice is described as “pure and true” by Opera News, will be the guest artist at the first program of the series. She’ll be singing the a propos Schubert Lieder “Trocknen Blumen” and “Die Forelle.”

Fang, a graduate of Julliard and a regular at The Metropolitan Opera, most recently sang the role of Ilia in Mozart’s “Idomeneo” and Gianetta in last season’s “L’Elisir d’Amore.”

The orchestra, named after the church it first performed in and the owner of four Grammy Awards, appears on numerous recordings, many of which are opera, including: “Nixon in China,” Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915,” and “Bel Canto.”
