World Cup 2018 Gala Featuring Anna Netrebko & Placido Domingo To Be Televised

The World Cup kick-off gala is set to be televised on Channel 1.

The gala, which is set to be televised on 1tv.ru from Red Square, will star some of the world’s greatest opera stars, including Anna Netrebko, Plácido Domingo, Ildar Abdrazakov, Albina Shagimuratova, Aida Garifullina, Juan Diego Flórez, and Yusif Eyvazov. Valery Gergiev will conduct the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra with pianist Denis Matsuev also set to make a big appearance.

Netrebko and Domingo are currently rehearsing a new production of Verdi’s “Macbeth,” while Abdrazakov is currently starring in a production of “Boris Godunov” at the Opéra de Paris. Shagimuratova will perform in a concert version of the “Magic Flute” at the Baden-Baden Festival, while Flórez will be on tour. Garifullina is finishing up a run of “Rigoletto” and will perform at Bastille Day in its annual gala performance. Meanwhile, Eyvazov is in Berlin performing a run of “Tosca.”

The concert will be held on June 13 at 9:35 p.m. local time. The World Cup is set to take place in Russia and run from June 14 to July 15, 2018.
