The well-reviewed “Roméo et Juliette” from the Metropolitan Opera will be showcased on PBS on Friday, April 14 starting at 9 P.M. EDT.

The opera, which featured Diana Damrau and Vittorio Grigolo in the lead roles, is an adaptation of the famous Shakespeare play. The performance that will be showcased on PBS took place on Jan. 21, 2017 as part of the Met’s Live in HD series. The performance was broadcast around the globe and will likely get encore performances in cinemas in coming months.

Damrau and Grigolo received accolades from critics, including OperaWire. “The chemistry that Damrau and Grigolo engender is too contagious to ignore and that makes this ‘Romeo et Juliette’ a truly thrilling and, at times, sexy experience,” said the website’s review.

Other critics were just as enthusiastic, with The New York Times exclaiming that the two singers “sizzle” while conductor Gianandrea Noseda showcased “Nuanced, richly textured conducting.”

The Financial Times noted that “Grigolo exuded extraordinary passion, vocally and physically. Damrau traced the heroine’s emotional state exquisitely from girlish giddiness to tragic sacrifice.”

PBS has been showcasing the Met’s Live in HD performances as part of its Great Performances series. Other operas that have already been showcased in that series this season include “Tristan und Isolde” and “Don Giovanni.”
