On Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, the Royal Opera House will showcase Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” live in HD around the world.

The performance, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. local time (1:30 p.m. for those on the East Coast and 10:30 a.m. for those on the West Coast) will feature Gregory Kunde in the lead role, Lianna Haroutounian as Leonora, Anita Rachvelishvili as Azucena and Vitaliy Bilyy as the Count di Luna. Richard Farnes conducts the performance which features a new production by director David Bosch. It can be watched at local cinemas around the world. The performance will be screened in movie theaters around the world at a later date, most of them coming in middle to late February.

After “Il Trovatore,” the company is slated to showcase “Madama Butterfly” and Verdi’s “Otello” as part of its series of cinematic broadcasts. The “Otello” will feature Jonas Kaufmann’s first ever attempt at the treacherous title role with Antonio Pappano in the pit. Other operas that have been given the cinema treatment in 2016-17 include “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” and “Così Fan Tutte.”

After the HD performance, there are still three more performances of “Il Trovatore” at the Royal Opera House on Feb. 3, 6 and 9. The Feb. 3 performance is sold out per the company’s official website.
