What the Big Stars Are Up To At Opernhaus Zurich For 2017-18 Season

The Opernhaus Zurich has announced its 2017-18 season which will feature over 30 operas.

New Productions 

The season kicks off with on Sept. 24, 2017 with Barry Kosky’s production of Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” starring Peter Mattei and Pavol Breslik. The show lasts nine performances, the last one on October 28.

From there, the company will showcase such new looks at “The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny,” “Ronja Raubertochter,” “Madama Butterfly,” “La Fille du Regiment,” and “Der Traum von Dir” to close out 2017.

The new calendar year gets started with new productions of “Idomeneo,” followed by “Lunea,” “Maria Stuarda,” “La Finta Giardiniera,” “La Forza del Destino” and “L’Incoronazione di Poppea.”

Other Repertoire

 Other repertoire that will be featured includes “Die Zauberflote,” “Salome,” “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” “Tosca,” “Fidelio,” “La Fanciulla del West,” “Le Comte Ory,” a Ravel double bill of “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges and “L’Heure Espagnole,” “La Scala di Seta,” “Parsifal,” “Der Fliegende Hollander,” “Luisa Miller,” “Werther,” “Turandot,” “Das Lands des Lachelns,” “Carmen” and “La Traviata,”

What the Stars Are Up To

The big stars will show up to the season as Karita Matilla takes on “Mahagonny,” Javier Camarena sings “La Fille du Regiment,” Diana Damrau sings her first “Maria Stuarda” and Yonghoon Lee and Hibla Gerzmava take on Verdi’s “Forza.”

Among the other major stars appearing are Lawrence Brownlee (“Barber” and “Le Comte Ory”), Anja Harteros (“Tosca”), Brian Jagde (“Tosca”), Klaus Florian Vogt, Elza van den Heever (both in “Fidelio”), Brandon Jovanovich (“Parsifal” and “La Fanciulla”), Cecilia Bartoli (“Le Comte Ory”), Nina Stemme (“Parsifal”), Bryn Terfel (“Der Fliegende Hollander”), Matthew Polenzani (“Luisa Miller”), Maria Agresta (“Luisa Miller”), Piotr Beczala (“Werther” and “Das Lands des Lachelns”) and Ailyn Pérez (“La Traviata”).
