The Wexford Opera has announced its ShortWorks Daytime Opera slate for 2017.

The festival offers a unique way to experience opera from the Clayton Whites Hotel. The daytime productions showcase shortened versions of works, running in at around one hour in length.

This year’s festival will feature one repertory staple, an Italian rarity and a world premiere.

First up is Verdi’s “Rigoletto,” which will feature Wexford new-comer, Giorgio D’alonzo, as Music Director with a cast comprised of Anglo-French baritone Charles Rice in the title role, with Italian soprano Giuliana Gianfaldoni as Gilda, and British tenor Aidan Coburn as the Duke.

Rossini’s “La Scala di seta” gets a showcase as well with Bulgarian soprano Galina Bakalova, Korean tenor Ji Hyun Kim, American tenor Chase Hopkins, and Italian bass Filippo Fontana.

Finally, the festival will premiere Irish composer Andrew Synnott’s “Dubliners,” which is based on James Joyce’s famous book. The world premiere will get four performances with a cast that includes soprano Emma Nash, tenor Andrew Gavin and Baritone David Howes. Synnott will conduct.

The performances kick off at the 66th Wexford Festival starting on Oct. 19, 2017 and running through Nov. 5, 2017.
