Weekend Preview USA (8/11-13): Glimmerglass & Santa Fe Opera Keep Going Strong

It will be another busy weekend in the US on the opera front.

The Glimmerglass Festival continues its run of performances with “Oklahoma!” on Friday, “Xerxes” and “The Siege of Calais” on Saturday, and “Porgy and Bess” and “Scalia / Ginsberg” closing out the weekend on Sunday. There will also be a showcase of “Robin Hood” on Friday.

Over at Santa Fe, “Alcina,” starring Daniela Mack and Alek Shrader, gets a showcase on Friday, while “Lucia di Lammermoor” shows on Saturday. The company will also showcase its Apprentice Showcase Scenes on Sunday.

Wolf Trap Opera’s slate includes “The Juniper Tree” and “Bastianello” on Friday and Sunday.

Opera Steamboat also showcases “Alcina” on Saturday, while West Edge Opera will feature performances of “L’arbore di Diana” on Saturday and “Hamlet” on Sunday.

Seattle Opera continues its run of “Madame Butterfly” on Sunday and dell’Arte Opera Ensemble showcases Cavalli’s “La Calisto” on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.
