Weekend Preview – USA (7/21-23): ‘The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs’ Makes It World Premiere

A major world premiere takes place this weekend, as the summer opera season continues around the US.

The big premiere is none other than Santa Fe Opera’s “The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs,” which gets its first performance on Saturday, July 22, 2017.

Pittsburgh Festival Opera will unveil “Intermezzo” for two performances on Friday and Sunday while Glow Lyric Theatre showcases “The Gondoliers” for the first time in 2017 on Friday and Sunday.

Friday sees the end of Cincinnati Opera’s “Song from the Uproar: The Lives and Deaths of Isabelle Eberhardt” by Missy Mazzoli.

Central City Opera continues “Così fan Tutte (which also gets performed on Sunday)” and “Carmen” on Saturday, while the Glimmerglass Festival showcases “Oklahoma!” on Friday and Sunday, and Santa Fe Opera continues performing “Lucia Di Lammermoor” on Friday.

Saturday brings the end of a run of “Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead” at Seagle Music Colony, which also plays on Friday. But the second night of the weekend will also see performances of “Porgy and Bess” and “L’assedio di Calais” at Glimmerglass, “Sweeney Todd” and “Xerxes” at Pittsburgh Festival Opera, “The Magic Flute” at Cincinnati Opera (also on Sunday), and “The Crucible” at Glow Lyric Theatre.

“Oklahoma!” gets a reprisal on Sunday at Glimmerglass to close out the weekend.
