Weekend Preview – USA (7/14-16): Leah Crocetto, Portland Opera, Wolf Trap Opera All Weekend Must-Sees

The summer festival season continues with a few companies putting on new and exciting productions.

Portland Opera showcases its new production of “Così fan tutte” on Friday, while Wolf Trap Opera unveils its own “Tosca.” Pittsburgh Opera Festival debuts its own “Xerxes” production that same night.

Charlottesville Opera continues its production of “Rigoletto,” as does Central City Opera with “Carmen,” Des Moines Metro Opera with “Billy Buddy,” Glimmerglass Festival with “Oklahoma!,” Opera Saratoga with “Zemire et Azor,” and Santa Fe Opera with “Die Fledermaus.”

Saturday is another night of debuts with Glimmerglass presenting its first “Xerxes” of the season. The same goes for Santa Fe Opera’s “The Golden Cockerel” and Cincinnati Opera’s “The Magic Flute.”

Opera Saratoga closes out its run of “Falstaff,” as does Des Moines Metro Opera with “A Little Night Music” and Pittsburgh Festival Opera with “Hansel and Gretel.” “Sweeney Todd” does continue its run at Pittsburgh Festival Opera.

The big premiere on Sunday is “L’assedio di Calais” at Glimmerglass starring Leah Crocetto. Elsewhere you can see the continued runs of “Rigoletto” at Charlotteville Opera, “Carmen” at Central City Opera, “The Cradle Will Rock” at Opera Saratoga, “Xerxes” at Pittsburgh Festival Opera, “Turandot” at Des Moine Metro Opera, and “The Crucible” at Glow Lyric Theatre.
