Weekend Preview – International (8/18-20): Anna Pirozzi and Oksana Dyka Headline Macbeth At Edinburgh

The festival season is coming to an end with many performances and productions on their last weekends. That said, the schedule around the world is still slated to feature a ton of major opera stars.

Austria 

The Salzburg Festival is in full swing with Rolando Villazón and Cecilia Bartoli performing on Friday in “Ariodante” and Anna Netrebko and Francesco Meli performing “Aida” on Saturday. Russell Thomas also continues his run of “La Clemenza di Tito” on a Saturday matinee performance while Gerald Finley and Evelyn Herlitzius take on “Lear.”

The Bregenzer Festival comes to an end this weekend with three final performances of “Carmen.” For audiences who missed the production, a DVD is already scheduled for release on C Major.

Chile 

José María Lo Monaco and Michele Angelini headline Jérôme Savary’s production of Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago.

Italy 

At the Arena di Verona, audiences will get a chance to see “Nabucco” with Boris Statsenko in the title role and Susanna Branchini as Abigaille on Friday. On Saturday “Madama Butterfly” has one final performance with Hui He and Gianluca Terranova. The weekend concludes with “Aida” with María José Siri and Walter Fraccaro.

Sweden 

The Royal Swedish Opera will present Joel Annmo and Hanna Husáhr as Tamino and Pamina in “The Magic Flute.”

United Kingdom 

The Edinburgh Festival showcases a production of Verdi’s “Macbeth” with Dalibor Jenis and Gabriele Viviani alternating the role of Macbeth. Meanwhile, Lady Macbeth is performed by Anna Pirozzi and Oksana Dyka. Gianandrea Noseda conducts.
