The weekend is on the lighter side as many of the big company’s have closed their season. However, the festival season is beginning with Aix- en-Provence in full swing. Check it out.

Austria 

The Prague Summer Nights Festival moves to Vienna to perform at the Mozarteum. The festival closes out with a performance of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” on Friday and two performances of “Le Nozze di Figaro” on Sunday.

Czech Republic 

Offenbach’s “Orphée aux Enfers” is being presented at the Karlin Music Theatre on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

France

Anita Rachvelishvili continues her run of “Carmen” alongside Bryan Hymel at the Opéra National de Paris while Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” continues its run.

At the Festival d’Aix-En-Provence “Pinocchio” will continue its run with Stephane Degout on Friday and Sunday as well as Bizet’s “Carmen” with Michael Fabiano on Saturday, the same that “Don Giovanni,” starring Isabel Leonard and Phillipe Sly is showcased. Stravinsky’s “The Rake’s Progress” also continues with Paul Appleby as Tom Rakewell.

Germany 
“Die Zauberflöte” kicks off the weekend at the Bayerische Staatsoper which will showcase Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” starring Anja Harteros and Klaus Florian Vogt on Sunday. Audiences can watch an online stream of that performance as well.

In Dresden, the Semperoper will perform Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” and “The Passenger” while Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov” and Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” will take center stage at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Yes, it is “Magic Flute” season in Germany.

Italy 

At the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma Bizet’s “Carmen” will be shown at the Caracalla with Veronica Simeoni in the title role.

Russia 

Maria Guleghina stars as “Tosca” in her signature role at the Mariinsky Theatre. The company will also perform Massenet’s “Werther,” Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” and Borodin’s “Prince Igor.”

Switzerland 

Maxim Mironov and Carlos Chausson star in Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at the Zurich Opera. Brandon Jovanovich and Rachel Willis-Sørenson also star in Wagner’s “Lohengrin” with the company.

U.K

The Royal Opera’s “Mitridate” continues its run with Michael Spyres on Friday. Meanwhile Puccini’s “Turandot” gets a new cast that includes Lise Lindstrom, Aleksandra Kurzak, and Roberto Alagna. The company’s “Otello” also continues its run with a new cast that includes Gregory Kunde and Zeljko Lucic.
