With the summer taking shape, it remains a rather relaxed opera season in North America, with most companies off.

But there are still a few companies putting on quality productions this week.

The big fish is San Francisco Opera which kicked off its summer 2017 season with “Rigoletto” and will showcase “Don Giovanni” this weekend on Sunday. That work features Ildebrando d’Arcangelo in the title role, Erin Wall, Ana Mariá Martinez, and Erwin Schrott among others.

Meanwhile, the New York Opera Fest 2017 (NYOF) continues its trek with three companies putting on productions. First off is Opera Lafayette, which will showcase “Les Indes Galates – Part IV” on Friday.

Opera On Tap will also showcase its New Brew: New Pint-Sized Edition. The event will feature music by Jennifer Jolley, Patrick Soluri, Michael Lydon, Gilda Lyons, Ronnie Reshef, Jeremy J. Beck, and Christopher Berg and delicious cocktails by Barbès!

Finally, Opera Upper West will feature “Glory Denied” on Friday and Saturday as part of the NYOF.

Also on the docket this week is Odyssey Opera, which will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Patience” on Friday and Saturday. Strauss’ “Salome” will get its final two performances on Saturday and Sunday at West Bay Opera while Opera Theatre of Saint Louis will continue its run of “Madama Butterfly” with a performance on Saturday.
