Weekend Preview (5/25-27) – North America: ‘Kept: A Ghost Story’ Makes World Premiere

It will be a rather quiet weekend in the opera world with only a few companies taking the stage.

Among them will be the Virginia Arts Festival, which will world premiere “Kept: A Ghost Story” on May 25, 2017. The company will put together an additional performance of the new opera on May 28. The opera is the brain child composer Kristin Kuster and librettist Megan Levad.

Beth Morrison Projects will showcase “The Hubble Cantata” on Friday while Heartbeat Opera will showcase “Butterfly” and “Carmen” on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Opéra de Montréal will put on a concert performance of Puccini’s “La Bohème” on Friday and Sunday as well.

Opera Parallèlle will give performances of “Les Enfants Terribles” on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Phillip Glass opera will get a total of four performances across the three days.

The Opera Theatre of Saint Louis will also present “Madama Butterfly” on Saturday and “The Grapes of Wrath” on Sunday.
