It is going to be a busy opera weekend around the US with a plethora of companies, both large and small, giving new productions and old.

Opera Memphis will showcase three works throughout the weekend including Peter Hilliard’s “Blue Viola” on Friday and Saturday, Jake Heggie’s “Three Decembers” on Saturday,” and John Musto’s “Later the Same Evening” on Saturday.

Palm Beach Opera will present performances of “The Pirates of Penzance” all through the weekend while Opera Tampa will give two performances of “Tosca” on Friday and Sunday.

Nashville Opera will present Bizet’s “Carmen” while Anchorage Opera celebrates its 55^th Anniversary with a three-night showcase. Florentine Opera also presents a series of concerts on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Brownlee and Eric Owens will appear in recital at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on the 9^th.  

On Friday, Seattle Opera presents “The Combat,” which combines Works by Monteverdi and Couperin. The project was created by the Education and Community Engagement Department of the company and features five singers and a 5-piece Baroque ensemble. The work will be conducted by Stephen Stubbs. Dean Williamson conducts.

Meanwhile, Arizona Opera showcases the Arizona run of Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” with performances on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Daniela Mack and Alyssa Martin share the title role while Alek Shrader and Andrew Owens take on Don Ramiro.

The Los Angeles Opera’s run of “The Tales of Hoffmann” continues on Sunday, April 9 with Diana Damrau and Vittorio Grigolo in starring roles. The two will also be on hand to sign CDs after the performance. Plácido Domingo conducts the production directed by his wife Marta Domingo.

Finally, the Metropolitan Opera has performances of “Eugene Onegin,” “La Traviata” and “Fidelio” to this weekend. Anna Netrebko and Mariusz Kwiecien star in the Tchaikovsky masterwork while Carmen Giannattasio leads the cast of Verdi’s seminal opera. Finally, Beethoven’s lone work for the stage gets its final performance of the season after a successful run.
