Watch Live Stream For ‘Jérusalem’ From Opera Royal de Wallonie

The Opera Royal de Wallonie will live stream Verdi’s “Jérusalem,” a rarely staged work, on March 23.

The opera is conducted by the young and talented conductor Speranza Scappucci and stars Marc Laho, Elaine Alvarez, Roberto Scandiuzzi, Ivan Thirion, Pietro Picone, Natacha Kowalski and Patrick Delcour.

This is the first time that the company is performing the Verdi opera in its history,  and since its premiere on March 17, the production has scored rave reviews.

For those not familiar with “Jérusalem,” Verdi decided to remodel “I Lombardi,” an opera that was unknown in Paris after he was invited to the Paris Opera in 1847. It was not the first time that such a “transformation” had been done. Rossini transformed “Maometto II” into “Siège de Corinthe” for Paris.  Likewise, Verdi’s “Stiffelio” became “Aroldo” later in his career. “Jérusalem” would remain very rare and was eventually translated into Italian.

“Jérusalem” includes numerous pieces of music from “I Lomabardi” but it does not include the famous trio that is widely performed in concert.

The opera will be live streamed for free on Culturebox for France Info at 8 P.M. in Liege and 3 P.M. EST.
