The performance will be available on Demand starting at 2 PM EST with subtitles in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Polish. The performance will be available to viewers until June 22, 2017.

“The Golden Cockerel” is a political satire that tells the story of a King who receives a gift of a Golden cockerel that can predict the future. In return, he grants the donor, an astrologer, a wish. However things go awry when the astrologer’s wish is to marry the Queen that the King himself is after. The work is based off a fairytale by noted Russian author Alexander Pushkin.

The production is directed by Laurent Pelly, whose major successes include “La Fille du Regiment” at the Metropolitan Opera House and Royal Opera House among others. This is his third production at La Monnaie after successfully directing “Cendrillon” and Don Quichotte” for the company.

The production stars Pavlo Hunka, Alexey Dolgov, Alexander Vassiliev, Agnes Zweierko, Alexander Kravets, Venera Gimadieva, Konstantin Shushakov, Sheva Tehoval and Sarah Demarthe among others. Alain Altinoglu conducts the work.

The Opera Platform is a partnership between Opera Europa, representing 155 opera companies and festivals, the cultural broadcasting channel ARTE and 15 selected theatres from across Europe. The organization gets support from EC’s Creative Europe programme and by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Via the platform, audiences get a shot at seeing a new opera each month from one of the participating houses.
