The Pinchgut Opera has announced its 2018 season with a number of exciting performances.

The Australian company will present the Melbourne debut of Grammy winner Vivica Genaux. She will headline the Australian premiere production of Johann Adolph Hasse’s “Artaserse.”

The production will also star a number of Pinchgut favorites such as Australian countertenor David Hansen and tenor Andrew Goodwin, as well as Russell Harcourt and Emily Edmonds.

In addition to her work in the opera, Genaux will present a concert at the Melbourne Recital Centre where she will join an ensemble of Australia’s finest early music musicians led by Helpmann Award-winning Erin Helyard for an evening of Handel, Hasse, Vivaldi, and other baroque contemporaries.

In the winter the company will present Handel’s “Athalia,” the composer’s third oratorio. Directed by Lindy Hume, the production will star Australian-born Emma Pearson in the title role. Clint van der Linde, Miriam Allan, Brenton Spiteri, and David Greco round out the cast.
