Happy New Year to all! This week baroque fans can experience a new recording of a rarely performed work.

Argippo

The French label Naïve Classiques releases Vivaldi’s “Argippo,” the 64th album in the label’s Vivaldi Edition.

The work is an opera-pasticcio comprised of 19 arias found in Regensburg and accompanying recitatives from Darmstadt, compiled by Fabio Biondi. The recording stars soprano Emőke Baráth in the title role, with contralto Delphine Galou as Zanaida, Marianna Pizzolato as Silvero, Luigi de Donato as Tisifaro, and Marie Lys as Osira. Fabio Biondi conducts the Europa Galante.

Recently releases of the Vivaldi edition include “Il Tamerlano,” “Il Giustino,” “Dorilla in Tempe,” “Orlando, 1714,” and “Ottone in Villa.”
