Vittorio Grigòlo to Release First Album in 3 Years

By David Salazar

It has been three years since Vittorio Grigòlo has released an album. But after a long wait, one of the most popular tenors in the opera world will finally be releasing his first CD in years.

Entitled “Verissimo,” the tenor hinted at his new release on Facebook in a video that featured him and bass Danilo Rigosa. They would not say what the content of the album would include and the title certainly gives little away.

Grigòlo’s most recent album was the 2014 release “The Romantic Hero,” which focused on romantic French Arias. Prior to that, he released an album filled with spiritual songs entitled “Ave Maria.” That 2013 set was preceded by 2011’s “Arrivederci” which focused on Italian art songs. And his first major release with Sony was the 2010 album “The Italian tenor.”

Grigòlo is coming off a few major runs at the Metropolitan Opera and Los Angeles this season. At the Met, he was lauded for his work in “Roméo et Juliette” and “Werther” after which he took Los Angeles by storm with his famous interpretation of “Les Contes d’Hoffmann.” Next up on the docket for the Italian tenor is a run of “Rigoletto” in Paris and more “Hoffmann” at the Met. He will also feature in a new production of “Tosca” at the Met later in the year before singing “Lucia di Lammermoor” with the same company. He is also scheduled to sing “L’elisir d’amore” in Vienna and Munich between his Met performances.
