Virginia Opera Announces 2017-18 Season

Virginia Opera has announced its 2017-18 season, which will feature four masterworks from the repertoire.

The season opens in late September with a production of Saint-Saëns’ “Samson and Delilah.” The work will get three performances in Norfolk on Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 and 3, 2017. It heads to Fairfax the following weekend, on Oct. 7 and 8, before shifting over to Richmond on Oct. 13 and 15.

In mid-November, Norfolk will get Puccini’s “The Girl of the Golden West” on Nov. 10, 12, and 14, with Richmond getting performances on Nov. 17 and 19, 2017. Fairfax will feature the work on Dec. 2 and 3.

The 2018 calendar year kicks off with Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on Feb. 9, 11, and 13 in Norfolk. Performances on Feb. 17 and 18 will take place in Fairfax, while audiences in Richmond get to see the show on Feb. 23 and 25, 2018.

The season ends with Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor,” which will also be featured in seven performances. Norfolk gets the first batch on March 23, 25, and 27, while Fairfax features the work on April 7 and 8. To close out the season, Richmond audiences will see the opera on April 13 and 15, 2018.
